If you find a solution to X fonts being too small and not scaling properly, LET ME KNOW! There is no easy way to customize X available to the dist to use. This is a known problem and one that needs attention if Linux is expected to gain more market share. I don't have a solution for that, but it's an area I really wish I did have a solution.
