As a newbie I could install smail and it worked right from the start. After more than a year's experience with Linux, I tried out exim several times. I could not get it to work after many hours and after several enquiries on this list. I would like to know how anyone get exim to work! Some mail categories always failed and I could get nobody - also on this list - who could help me to solve my problems. I had no such problems with smail. Maybe my experience suggests a setup program for exim that works and that do not suppose a lot of expertise to install the program.
