-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- hi,
I used to have a Slackware system using kernel 2.0.29, which seemed to have quite some problems with its internal sound subsystem. This is why I bought the commercial OSS drivers (4Front), which work well. When I used Slackware, all I had to do to make the sounddriver load at boot time was to insert a call into one of the startup scripts - now that I am using Debian, I don't really know how to do this - I understand that it requires a script of a specific format, one that can cope with start/stop parameters, etc. The sounddriver I am using is a module, loaded with a supplied script - where can I find instructions on how to write such a startup script, or is there a generic one - also, is there information available on where I had best place it? I have one more "problem": after upgrading bash, etc. to the latest hamm version, root used to log in automatically on bootup. I removed the responsible entry from /etc/inittab. The problem I encounter now is, that the root login does no longer require a password, even though it is set. - "su" still requires it. What causes this behaviour? - -- ============================= Chris Zander web ishmael.ml.org/~zander email [EMAIL PROTECTED] ============================= -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.3ia Charset: noconv iQCVAwUBNWbItRZiJXs96Q11AQFaTgP/e3FLSCgiqlB+T1P3AEcyjl6RG58Mffgk ZDVeVPHZQD2XAIZ1VnJOuu1bmeRUM+AmwZ9+90Ad+mwh8zK21MmRNSLYktysqsEx Cnt4SaFBCBMcNcEzY7+iY0pezHWCaLcNapxDIe/+BzPwkhdoUkg+nKE1KHsNZ1lz +qGfYpIQs/o= =UCW/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
