What I would do is download the base.tgz and the drv disks and so on, everything required to do a hard disk install and put that on /home. Make the resuce disk and then boot it. Format / and /usr then tell the rescue disk to look on /home for it's stuff. Basically the same procedure as doing it from dos except that you are using an ext2 disk.
