On a system with DOS and a CD-ROM, you can install Debian without any floppies. On the other hand if you have a non-standard CD-ROM Red Hat is almost impossible to install. Also, unless things have changed since 4.1 (the last RH version I used) version upgrades are almost as painful as a new installation, which is definitely not the case with Debian (even hamm).
