If you are just starting out and don't want to mess around with configuration files or just want to experiment, you can manually enter "mem=80M" (don't type the quotes) or whatever amount of RAM you have at the "boot:" line. You would have to do this each time you boot. That would be equivalent to 'append="mem=80M"' in your lilo.conf file.
