Note that you _can_ use Pine with out any mail transport agents (just like with something such as netscape). Pine is quite easy to set up this way but just as with using netscape directly on your ISP you loose a lot of the potential functionality that programs like 'fetchmail', 'procmail', 'exim', etc. can provide.
