Hi pianoman! Let us try to find it out, shall we? > who came up with a dumb idea to make a file that should go on a floppy > disk larger then 1.3 meg ??? Mmmh. Could you please be more specific about the file you mean? I assume taht you mean the disk files for booting and the base disks. Well, I see the following: -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 1228800 Oct 15 10:48 base-1.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 1228800 Oct 15 10:48 base-2.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 1228800 Oct 15 10:48 base-3.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 1228800 Oct 15 10:48 base-4.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 1141760 Oct 15 10:48 base-5.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 1228800 Oct 15 10:48 drv1200.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 1474560 Oct 15 10:48 drv1440.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 1228800 Oct 15 10:48 resc1200.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 1474560 Oct 15 10:48 resc1440.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 690316 Oct 15 10:48 root.bin So they fit nicely on a 3 1/2'' floppy disk using the rawrite command. The base disks and the *1220.bin files also fit on a 5 1/4'' floppy disk. Perhaps you see something other than me? > no wonder there is no charge for linux software......it is impossible to > install. But some other had success in it. Here are a lot of people who are willing to help you with the installation procedure, so just ask your questions and with chance there is someone who can answer it. > i wasted all night to install linux from a boot magazine cd,.....what a > joke. Hmm. I do not know if there is something special to be aware of with the boot disk. You have tried to install debian, did you? How far did you come before things began to break? Every piece of information is useful. Regards, Marcus PS: Please answer to me and debian-user. debian-faq is not the appropriate list for this discussion. There are only few people on the faq list, but hundreds on the user list, so the chance is higher to get a positive response there. Thank you. -- "Rhubarb is no Egyptian god."
