Gotcha -- I guess I have just read and read and read so much about TrueType Fonts etc 
that my head spins after a while... for example that 
tldp.org/HOWTO/mini/TT-XFree86.html page _does_ not specify XFree86 version 4.2.1 that 
I have - it says 4.0.x ... ok it is a minor point but I get paranoid!
