Nope. We might make it out by the end of the year, but I very much doubt it. Upgrading to libc6 is a massive undertaking that is more akin to releasing a completely new distribution than it is to the reasonably minor upgrades we've done otherwise. > My first use of dselect was interesting but seemed to work out fine > when I worked out how to display a list of "All" packages installed or > not. Unfortunatly I'm lost as to what happened to you here. Installing new packages can take a while, especially if you're installing a lot of them. "dpkg --audit" should tell you if dpkg thinks anything is in an inconsistant state. > Can anyone give me a brief run-down on these files from > /var/lib/dpkg OR point me to a doc that will tell me more about how > package management works under Debian. > > available 576,252 > available-old 576,252 The packages dpkg/dselect believe to be available on your chosen installation material > cmethopt 13 Not certain here, possibly what installation method you've chosen > diversions 112 > diversions-old 57 dpkg can "divert" files from certain packages so other packages can provide better versions of them (ssltelnet diverts telnet to replace it for example) > lock 0 > methlock 0 Various lock files.
