If your installed kernel has support for the zip drive (it recognizes the zip drive as a scsi device, sda?) you should be able to just mount the zip drive normally, such as mount /dev/sda? /mnt, and then just use it. If there is no support for the zip drive already built in, you will need to compile it in by rebuilding the kernel. For debian, I believe the proper entries are listed under scsi device drivers during the kernel make config or make menuconfig. After that, mine was recognized by the kernel and was easily mounted and used.
