any idea how i can check what's faulty?
i first installed the 32Mb.
result: - win95 dos box hangs
- linux dos box has problems
- X runs without problems
then i installed the S3Virge that can access 32Mb.
result: - win95 dos box runs well
- linux dos box has problems
- X-restart hangs sometimes (at random times it seems)
i tried kernel option mem=16M to disable the upper bank
result: - linux dos box has problems
- X-restart didn't hang till now (but i restarted only a few
times)
Now:
- even using only the old lower 16Mb bank that runned well for
months, i have problems
- it seems unlikely that dos (not xdos, but the text-oriented dos)
doens't run because of a graphics card.
so how do i determine which hardware is faulty? the 32Mb and/or the
S3Virge?
