Um, sorry, they were designed to be run from inetd. That you have to add '-D' to 'force' them to run in standalone mode suggests that in standalone mode it is not the default setup. However, it is a matter of choice. If you want tcp wrappers, or something, standalone is not the best choice. If you need performance, like for instance with a web server, the obvious choice is standalone. -- Todd Fries ..
