It's a deliberate decision to not put LILO on the MBR, but on the partition.
Removing the "1" works, but makes it difficult to boot other operating
systems. He shouldn't get the prompt from the "mbr" program unless something
is wrong with LILO or the partition hasn't been activated.
The MBR program supports switching the boot partition with DOS FDISK or
Linux "fdisk" or "activate".
