NFS install is great, because you need only 1 floppy. > The problem is that I have installed the base1_3 system and just got my CD > that is Debian 1.2 Release !!!! What do I do ?? I'm not sure about this, but (off the top of my hat): AFAIK it should work just fine. The 1.3 base packages (which is what you've got from base1_3.tgz) are independent of any other packages. Maybe you'll have some minor compatibility problems with optionals from 1.2, but I don't even think that's very likely. If this does appear to be the case with a package from 1.2, just update to the version in 1.3. Dselect could be a bit confusing to use, but you can trust it will not downgrade the base packages to their 1.2 versions. > I need to have a clean devlp. environment, need that the libs be > uptodate, I believe that I can live with the X environment of the 1.2 > distrib. That's the situation, a specific list of 1.3 files essential > from /net /libs /dev Hmmm, if you want to do some development, you'll want to have at least libc5-dev from devel/. It must be the same version as libc5 from base/, so you'll have to at least download that package. Also, notice that 1.3 has shadow support and the installation suggests it as default. This might break some packages in 1.2 that do not support shadow-passwords (xdm in xbase might be a candidate.) If you notice any problems with logging in and permissions, try 'shadowconfig off' or get packages from 1.3 (alas, xbase from 1.3.0 has a little configuration flaw related to xdm, but it is quite easily fixable. It should be working by default in 1.3.1's xbase.) Cheers, Joost -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
