This should be clgd not cldg!  If this was just a typo in your post, you
could try putting a different Cirrus chipset line in your XF86Config
file.  clgd5436 or clgd5428 might make X work.  I had a similar problem
with a Cirrus chipset (clgd7548) and using clgd5436 fixed it for me.
