I have been using vfat to mount my win95 and nt(fat) partitions for several weeks with no problems. Once Norton Disk Doctor found an orphaned long file name entry in the directory that I routinely use to copy test kernels to for booting using loadlin. This is not a serious error and would not lead to corruption. I often download Gnu and Debian sources under nt4.0 to vfat, preserving the long file names, and extract them under Linux.
