If `ldd /home/ftp/bin/ls' shows anything other than
statically linked (ELF)
(or a.out I suppose) then ls won't work unless libc.so.??? is in
/home/ftp/lib (or somewhere).
You need a statically linked ls for anonymous ftp because the server
chroot(2)s into /home/ftp for security.
