Assuming they are both ide drives on the same controller, jumper it to be a slave and connect to the other connector on the ribbon cable. It should automatically be recognized by the kernel--check your boot message with 'dmesg|more' to see that it is. Next, do 'fdisk /dev/hdb' to partition, run mke2fs to prepare the partition(s) for data, add it to /etc/fstab and you should be in business.
