I did just this last week, setup a demand dial firewall/proxy server with debian. I used a 496-33 with 8 megs ram and a 50meg hd, 50megs is pushing it sizewize thought. I also tried iton a 386 (40Mhz I think) with 4 megs ram and it did not get acceptable speeds, too much swapping I suspect.
