  This is for closure and in case someone else has
this problem in the future.
I did a search on google for
libc6_2.2.5-14.3.i386.deb.  Downloaded that plus the
libc6-dev and the locales, all the same 2.2.5-14.3.
Did a dpkg -i  and it replaced the libc6_2.3... with
the 2.2.5...
Everything appears to be normal now.
