This behavior in less has been repaired. You can now less the proc file system with no problems. This is an entirely different problem. Moreover, it's one that I can't reproduce. The following works as expected: rm temp touch temp less temp <less shows a file with no content> What version are we talking about? I'm using 290-8 with none of these problems, however, when I upgrade to 321-1 I get the results that have been described. It looks like the fix that went into 290 didn't propogate into the newer 321 release. I'll go back to my old e-mail and see if I can find the patch. In the mean time, downgrade to the "stable" 290-8 version.
