This happened to me too, because I didn't configure xdm when I installed it (because I didn't have the right info at hand to configure the X server, and didn't want to get locked out). You need to tell xdm what server to run. In /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers, add: :0 console-display local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 and the problem should be solved. -- Bill Roman ([EMAIL PROTECTED] / [EMAIL PROTECTED]) running linux
