A user level program can _never_ result in a kernel oops. If it does,
it's bad hardware (RAM!) or yes, a real kernel bug. Some Linux kernels
in the late 2.0.x series do indeed have these kind of bugs. Upgrade
to 2.0.19 (released yesterday) and you'll be fine.
