hi, 

consider this as an alternative:

- put deb-src entries for testing in your sources.list
- apt-get update
- apt-get source gnump3d -b
- dpkg -i gnump3d_<longdateandversion>.deb

i'm not sure how well the dependency-handling works for this,
but i've used it to install selected packages from testing onto
a stable system with minimal hassle and worry.
