I think you are massively overcomplicating the problem...
You wrote ealier that your last upgrade was on the 2nd of june (FYI
here in the US 02/06/2005 is usually interpreted as Feb 6 2005) and
you wrote that you were changing to "the 'stable' target from now on"
or you could also point to "sarge." This means you are now just a
simple minor upgrade away from the final sarge release. You already
answered your own question with a valid solution, which many others
are using successfully, so I don't know what you think the problem is?
