I'd say go with UW's IMAP server. It's not feature rich or perfect but for home use it does the job. Configuration is simple... as far as I can tell there is none. Either it works or it doesn't. :D Anyway, that is what I use here. UW for IMAP, squirrel for web based, mutt for local when I really need it, Thunderbird through IMAP 99.9% of the time. No need to convert from mbox to maildir. -- Steve C.
