Maybe I should have added that I put an entry
/etc/hal/fdi/preferences.fdi to set the storage.automount_enabled_hint
== true for any removable media.

I should have added here that in the hal device manager "tree" I can
navigate all the way down to a USBDrive2.0 which has all the info
about my usb stick. The device with info.udi = scsi_4_0_0_0 is it's
parent. Seems like g-v-m doesn't navigate to the end of the "tree".
