    Persinally I use xfce on my Laptop.  It's only a PII(?)-667 w/192Mb RAM.

    Not sure how much of that can be culled out but it is pretty minimal and
allows me to run Firefox & Thunderbird easily with the occasional forays
into OpenOffice or other such heavier applications.
