do you have any connected as /dev/hdb ??
- if so ... move it to another ide cable
if you are running a single processor system, use s sinle processor kernel
- you're using an smp kernel
"seek comlete error"
are usually just bad ide cables or mismatch of ata speeds on hda
and hdb devices
- ibm deathstars were the only "bad disks"
- you could also have bad memory .... and the system tries
to fi the good disk data with what it has in its bad memory

too late ...
- if the disk is dying .... backing it up now will only
amplify the problems
- make backups BEFORe you see probelms
otherwise, you'd be backing up the problem data/sectors to your
backup
- if you only keep one backup, you just lost your good backup too
