Hi Len, I'm going to point you to a posting to this list six years ago which might help you. http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/1998/10/msg01506.html This i found with a fast google on the terms lilo only li. Google will normally provide an answer within a couple of minutes, while mailing lists take a lot longer. For getting your system booting so you can fix it, I would recommend knoppix.
