Kernel 2.6.8 fixed a security hole that cdrecord relied upon to work. Kernel 2.6.9 did not revert that fix. I don't know what debian does with their kernels, but cdrecord needs to be patched (and hasn't, as-of 4:2.0+a38-1). You can find a patch for cdrecord in bug #267273. --Ken Bloom Hint: the cdrecord build will fail if you have a /usr/src/linux directory or /usr/src/linux symlink.
