Besides my menubar being missing, it seems that when I minimize my windows by clicking the "_" in a window's titlebar, the Window just disappears, and I can't figure out how to get it back again.
this sounds like an issue with "gnome-panel". Try to run it manually in a terminal or check if its installation went ok via "apt-get install gnome-panel" or "apt-get dist-upgrade". Accessing minimized windows should be possible aswell via <alt-tab>
