It is a little confusing but the keyboard set for the UK is "gb" .... "uk" is Ukraine ;) If you do # dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 you should get the opportunity to reset it as you can also by doing # dpkg-reconfigure console-data to reset the console.
