I'm no expert on this but I think your problem is that lilo or grub is pointing to /dev/hda1 instead of /dev/hda3 (your root partition). Perhaps try putting root=/dev/hda3 in your booting script.
Anthony
the following is content of my grub booting script: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- color cyan/blue white/blue
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.7-1-386 root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.7-1-386 root=/dev/hda3 ro initrd /initrd.img-2.6.7-1-386 savedefault boot
title Kernel-2.6.9 root (hd0,0) kernel /kernel-2.6.9 root=/dev/hda3 ro savedefault boot
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.7-1-386 (recovery mode) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.7-1-386 root=/dev/hda3 ro single initrd /initrd.img-2.6.7-1-386 savedefault boot -------------------------------------------------------------------------
And second on the list is the kernel compiled by myself. It is correct that I set "root=/dev/hda3"
