Thank you for the advice. The unasked query - because it related specifically to my box: Drivers for most of the hardware needed by my (recently-purchased) computer are not (readily?) available for the Woody kernel (2.4.18bf2.4). I am hoping that the kernels packaged with Sarge will do better. The 14 CDs are currently in the mail. When they arrive, my query may be fully answered in the included documentation - if I know where to look.
