Hi,
somewhat returning to Debian from a long time break I had to install (admittedly not current version) 3.0-r0 on a PC with a new 250GB hard drive. The harddrive was "pre-partitioned" with a CD of a rescue set (rescuecd.sf.net) that is based on Sarge without problems. Unfortunately it seems that cfdisk as well as fdisk from 3.0-r0 fail on that large disk. cfdisks says the first partition is larger than the drive, fdisk says it cannot access the disk. Furthermore I cannot select the pre-partitioned swap partition in the installer. When I looked into dmesg, I realized that the kernel detected the hard disk as 128GB disk with wrong geometry. So I booted the kernel with correct hda geometry, which is shown correctly in dmesg. However the disk is still reported as 128GB disk. Finally I tried the bf24 kernel without any change.
Is this a famous problem with 3.0-r0? Is it corrected in later versions of 3.0? Or will I have to wait for sarge? I would also be grateful for a link or hint how to download and use the current installer - this would be a great time to help testing. Is the current snapshot of testing already bootable?
Thanks Ulf
