Sorry, I forgot to add:
If you want the aliases to be loaded at boot - time, you have to add auto eth0:aliasnumber before each alias stanza into your
/etc/network/interfaces
e.g.:
auto eth0:0
iface eth0:0 inet static
address 192.168.1.11
netmask 255.255.255.0
