As already suggested, I'd go with hostap instead of linux-wlan-ng. They overlap each other a fair bit, but I believe (pls correct me if I'm wrong) hostap has become the most mature of the two. Also, with hostap you can have your NIC act as an wireless access point for other NICs to connect to which is pretty neat.
