in sid is a package called "java-package" that will make a .deb out of sun's .bin. I have used it and got java 1.5 working (in firefox as well).




The following link is a very good step-by-step tutorial for installing Java. It is predicated upon having sarge installed though. I suppose you could do it using woody, but you may have to upgrade some packages to do so. I've never tried it on woody.
