Here is the info on my system:

Kernel 2.6.9, custom built.

snd                    46052  10
snd_via82xx,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixe
r_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_rawmidi

Using Gnome 2.8.

I have tried muiltiple cd players including xmms..
