Maybe you simply have to install alsa-modules. Check your modules directory; if you can not find the Alsa modules (files named snd-xxxxxxx.o) then you need to install the alsa-modules package. You can find it in debian site, but remember you have to install the one right for your kernel, choosing the package named alsa-modules-*****, where ***** is the version number of your kernel. For example, supposing you have the 2.4.27-1-686 kernel, you could type
