There are a couple of non-free programs which aren't packaged for Debian that I use using the source.
My answer -- Use stow. apt-get install stow once done you'll have a directory named /usr/local/stow under which all .tar.gz based programs need be installed. Eg: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/stow/foo-0.0.1 and once installed, `cd /usr/local/stow; stow foo-0.0.1` will do the job of creating symlinks to /usr/local/bin, /usr/local/lib etc etc etc. :-) I hope that is what you'll want. rrs - -- Ritesh Raj Sarraf RESEARCHUT -- http://www.researchut.com Gnupg Key ID: 04F130BC "Stealing logic from one person is plagiarism, stealing from many is research". -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFBica44Rhi6gTxMLwRAhUzAJoCCCIcp7m0REp3VLJXrLcwFEaM4gCgr5X0 b//aPL9+6p1vN2lRa5dkejU= =2rGr -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
