It seems that the kernel is looking in the wrong place for your root file system. > Guess it's time to reinstall. Maybe not. If you can boot with a live CD such as Knoppix, then mount the file system that contains your kernel, and run rdev <kernel_file> <root_partition_device_file_name> then your problem may be solved.
