Hi I am trying to get RAID 1 working on Debian 3.0 2.2 kernel. I used the patch from: http://packages.debian.org/stable/devel/kernel-patch-2.2.20-raid
I followed the custom build kernel tutorial at: http://newbiedoc.sourceforge.net/system/kernel-pkg.html selected the RAID settings from menuconfig. The build seems to be ok. dpkg installed the kernel, modified lilo and setup the links. In / vmlinuz points to the newly build/installed kernel in boot. Whats strange is that "uname -a" keeps reporting the same name (Linux corbu 2.2.20-idepci #1 Sat Apr 20 12:45:19 EST 2002 i686 unknown) as it was reporting before my new kernel was installed. It looks as the new kernel is not working. For RAID support there has to be a /proc/mdstats but its not there. I also tried the custom build the 'hard-core' way (ie. not using the handy debian tools) but got the same result. I also tried a custom build with 2.4 kernel but "uname -a" still keeps reporting "Linux corbu 2.2.20-idepci #1 Sat Apr 20 12:45:19 EST 2002 i686 unknown" I must be doing something completely wrong but don't know what.
