Somewhere during the installation you can choose from the main menu to load installer components. Try to load the one for configuring networks. After that rerun the hardware autodetection. If you cannot select these options, try to run the installation in expert mode.

In normal installation mode, if it doesn't find a DHCP server it will not install networking. Brilliant idea. I could understand Windows doing that, but Debian?
