Hi,
I don't know that this is really the appropriate place to be asking this, but my Google-fu has failed me.
Background:
I was running a working setup of getmail version 3, spamassasin called from /etc/procmailrc and procmail on my P75 gateway running Debian stable. The amount of spam I was getting crippled the poor thing and I stopped filtering on it.
I've now upgraded my gateway machine to a 1GHz Duron and Sarge. I find that getmail has version 4, with different configuration. I've tried to convert my old config to the new style, but I'm getting:
"Configuration error: missing required configuration parameter path"
So, something's not right. I've not entirely got my head around the interation of getmail/SA/procmail and besides, people have mentioned the difference between running SA as a daemon or otherwise and I'm not sure I fully understand the difference.
If any kind soul could explain the most efficient use of spamassassin and getmail and the necessary configuration to do so, I would be most grateful. If not, a pointer in the right direction to find it out for myself would be appreciated.
My current config file for getmail is below:
[retriever] type = SimplePOP3Retriever server = mail.wrigley.me.uk username = joe password = password_removed
[destination] type = Maildir destinations = ("[procmail-as-joe]",)
[procmail-as-joe] type = MDA_external path = /usr/bin/procmail arguments = ('-d joe', )
