Debian Users, This problem occurs in an attempt at diskette/network installation of Woody on an ISA 486 DX with a SCSI disk attached via an AHA-1542B.
I retrieved the Woody 3.0.23, 2002-05-21 images, rescue, root, driver-{1..4}.bin, and put them on diskettes. Installation appeared OK until attempting to install kernel module 3c509. IO address and IRQ were set in the module configuration to values previously set in the EPROM of the card. This was tried for these three cases. io=0x300 irq=5 io=0x300 irq=10 io=0x300 irq=12 C5X9CFG.EXE complained that IRQ 11 was already allocated, suggesting that IRQs 5, 10 and 12 were OK. In each of the three cases this message surfaced. "Note: /target/etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.2.20/modules.dep /lib/modules/2.2.20/net/3c509.o: invalid parameter parm_io /lib/modules/2.2.20/net/3c509.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.2.20/net/3c509.o failed /lib/modules/2.2.20/net/3c509.o: insmod 3c509 failed Installation failed." An AT-1500T NIC produced analogous results. Any insights or suggestions?
