[EMAIL PROTECTED]:(~)$ dpkg -l ftp ii ftp 0.17-12 The FTP client. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:(~)$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/ftp lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 May 19 16:37 /etc/alternatives/ftp -> /usr/bin/netkit-ftp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:(~)$ dpkg -L ftp /. /usr /usr/bin /usr/bin/netkit-ftp /usr/share /usr/share/man /usr/share/man/man1 /usr/share/man/man1/netkit-ftp.1.gz /usr/share/man/man5 /usr/share/man/man5/netrc.5.gz /usr/share/doc /usr/share/doc/ftp /usr/share/doc/ftp/BUGS /usr/share/doc/ftp/README /usr/share/doc/ftp/copyright /usr/share/doc/ftp/changelog.gz /usr/share/doc/ftp/changelog.Debian.gz /usr/bin/pftp /usr/share/man/man1/pftp.1.gz So you see he could be using one of many choices (not to mention OS's) which is why he needs to make sure he is operating in passive mode. This is most likely his problem.
