fwiw, that's what it says here too.  I'd forgotten about xdpyinfo.

That's one way.  You could just stuff those into your ~/.Xresources or
~/.Xdefaults, then "xrdb -merge .Xresources"

Actually, I hadn't changed that.  I'd only swapped XF86Config-4 font
line positions.
